Lady Allen and Usain Bolt partner to walk for Chain of Hope Jamaica!

Chain of Hope Jamaica in association with the Her Excellency, The Most Honourable Lady Allen and the Honourable Usain Bolt have launched the Usain Bolt Walkathon to take place later on this year.  The launch took place at the Bustamante Hospital for Children on May 15th 2011 and culminated in a tour of the site of the new 10-bedded intensive care unit and new cardiac facility (the construction of this unit will be sponsored by Digicel).  Lady Allen and Usain also had the opportunity to meet none of our little patients who had his life saving cardiac surgery done by our visiting team in April.

Get your walking shoes out! It's going to be tons of fun!

The Life Cycle

On Saturday May 7th at 4:30 am, Alan Barnes of Red Stripe, and friends took off to cycle around the entire circumference of Jamaica once more to raise money for 8 children’s cardiac surgeries.  The only difference this year was that the route was longer and much more challenging.  Al, Mavin and Kirk completed the entire journey, but ALL the cyclists did an amazing job!  Our very own Dr. Little was with them the entire way as the official medic, and others from the Chain of Hope Jamaica gang were right behind them cheering them on!  This was truly a team effort and it was all for the kids!

Congenital Heart Institute of Florida and Cardiac Kids Foundation 5th mission to Jamaica!

Lead Surgeon Dr. Jeff Jacobs and Larry King Junior pose with some parents outside of Operating Theatre
On April 4th-12th, the visiting team, mainly from All Children’s Hospital in Tampa, Florida, came to Bustamante Hospital for Children to help to treat our children suffering from heart disease.  A total of 25 children were treated.  A main feature of this mission was the Larry King Conference.  Larry King Junior was in attendance.  We look forward to working with the Larry King Cardiac Foundation in developing a sustainable paediatric cardiac service at Bustamante Hospital for Children for the children of Jamaica.
