Chain of Hope Jamaica hosted its first major fundraising event, a Night of Hope on November 20th, 2010 at the beautiful home of Mr. Kenny Benjamin.  Guests of Honour included the founding patron of Chain of Hope UK, director and trustee of Chain of Hope Jamaica and world renowned cardiothoracic surgeon Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, Her Excellency, The Most Honourable Lady Allen who is known for her great love for and service to the children at the Bustamante Hospital, British High Commissioner His Excellency, Sir Howard Drake and his lovely wife, Mrs. Drake and Internationally recording superstar Shaggy.  Another special guest was a patient who Sir Madgi performed life saving cardiac surgery on some 12 years ago at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.  The 2 had a heart warming reunion at a Night of Hope.

The evening featured a live auction and live entertainment by young violinist Jessica Yap and the Tony Wilson Dance Company and ear candy by DJ Liquid.  A Night of Hope was a complete success raising over JM $2 million which will go towards giving the children of Jamaica suffering with life threatening heart disease a chance at a normal and healthy life.  The evening was a wonderful ‘kick off’ to a year-long campaign dubbed ‘Healing Hearts’ to raise funds for a sustainable pediatric cardiac program at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.  This entails the training of key cardiac personnel, the construction of a new cardiac facility and a new Intensive Care Unit (to increase the number bed space available for the cardiac program), and new vital equipment for this unit.
